Ford Vci Software
Jan 29, 2018 - Latest Ford IDS V108.01 Full Software for Ford VCM II support online programming released on Jan. Note: The software update to newer.
The VCX Nano I took apart seems to be a custom design to emulate in hardware part of the hardware/software of the VCM II but the driver is most important too. I did not take pictures but gently peeling down the stickers reveals 4 screws. Once inside it is a very simple board with a ST micro cortex M4 STM32F4 Series based micro controller doing the work. The FT serial to usb chip-set and some caps and a space that was blank for I assume either the WIFI or Bluetooth module. I googled the device and did see a Russian site where a guy took apart a VW version and it had more chips and and older generation micro-controller.
Vehicle control unit reprogramming is here, now. Virtually every new vehicle on the market supports some level of reprogramming or reinitialization. Rapid expansion in electronics has led to a software explosion.
Software engineers are faced with the demand to create reliable software in increasingly shorter periods of time, so programming mistakes are bound to happen. Reprogramming in the field can correct the unforeseen problems created by these software errors. Are you ready to perform this service, or will you have to send these customers to another shop? My December 2006 Motor article, “J2534 Reprogramming: No Flash in the Pan,” discussed the evolution of J2534 reprogramming and provided an overview of the reprogramming process.
If you know nothing about this subject, it would be helpful to review that article. Visit to download a copy. This article will focus on changes to the SAE J2534 standard and explain how to justify the cost of reprogramming and reprogramming equipment.
It will also answer some frequently asked questions on the subject. The SAE J2534-1 standard has not changed since December 2006.
However, additional vehicle manufacturers now offer J2534-1 reprogramming capability on their vehicles, and more aftermarket tool companies have made J2534-1 devices available. As a reminder, J2534 reprogramming was included in the amendments to the Clean Air Act of 1990 and focuses on emissions-related powertrain control module (PCM) and transmission control module (TCM) reprogramming. J2534 was designed to provide a low-cost reprogramming solution to the aftermarket and covers 2004 and newer vehicles. Reprogramming access for non-emissions-related modules and older vehicles is not mandatory. The EPA has added language to the Clean Air Act suggesting that vehicle manufacturers provide reprogramming coverage back to 1996 model vehicles, if possible.
Ford, Chrysler, GM and others do provide coverage for these older vehicles. What about non-emissions-related modules? This is where you’ll see some changes in the future. The SAE J2534 Standards Committee has implemented an optional standard called J2534-2, which is designed to cover non-emissions-related systems and engine control systems that do not fit into the J2534-1 standard. How will this help? Currently, Chrysler offers only PCM and TCM reprogramming via J2534-1, but dealership technicians are able to reprogram many other modules using factory diagnostic tools. Chrysler is attempting to develop an aftermarket reprogramming solution for non-emissions-related modules using the J2534 interface.
If successful, the specifications for this solution would be made available in the J2534-2 standard. In theory, providing no internal hardware changes to your reprogramming equipment were necessary, you should be able to perform a reprogramming or software update via an existing J2534 interface, which would then make that toool also capable of reprogramming the Chrysler non-emissions-related modules. Unfortunately, most J2534 devices will require hardware upgrade or replacement to accommodate the newer vehicle communications protocols.

GM already uses portions of J2534-2, which allows all vehicle modules to be reprogrammed via a J2534 device using the TIS2Web software. Prior to the Automotive Service Association’s CARS convention held this past Fall in Las Vegas, several vehicle manufacturers demonstrated the capabilities of their new PC-based diagnostic systems. The new Toyota TIS Techstream diagnostic system uses an industry-standard laptop and a vehicle interface module similar to a J2534 interface. If you wanted to purchase the Toyota tool right now, the price is $7995 and includes a Panasonic Toughbook and accessories.
